Procedure

Sperm Storage Process - this service is only available in Gauteng

Netcells has partnered with Medfem, one of the top Infertility Clinics in SA, to offer storage of sperm. This will be done privately for patients and is not a donor sperm bank.

The sperm will be collected at the Medfem clinic. The sperm will undergo testing to exclude any contamination by bacteria and viruses. The sperm will then be cryopreserved at Medfem to a temperature of -196oC.

The cost of the collection at Medfem will be R650 and approximately R500 for the testing.

The sperm will then be transferred to a liquid nitrogen storage chamber where it will be effectively stored in the frozen state. This chamber is located at Netcells Cryogenics. Netcells Cryogenics is situated in a secure area, with security guards, which are camera monitored and alarm protected. Our storage tanks are automatically topped up with liquid nitrogen and alarm activated via sms, should the liquid nitrogen levels ever get low. We also have uninterrupted power supply (UPS) and a back-up generator in the event of a power failure.

The cost of the storage at Netcells will be as follows:

Registration Fee R500
Cryogenic Storage Fee R95 per month (payable annually in advance as a total of R1,140 incl. VAT)
Retrieval Fee R500
